TRUTH
Above all else: truth matters. Without truth nothing good can be. In the absence of truth there is only evil.
If one possesses a fervent desire for truth, he will do whatever is necessary to be able to recognized it when he sees or hears it. Thankfully, God has written the truth in every heart. But, often, we have to get through many of the roadblocks placed in our way by modern living before we can get to the truth. To reach the truth, however, first, we must commit ourselves to pursuing it, no matter where it leads.
God exists because truth exists, or does truth exist because God exists, for God is Truth. He is the author of truth. He loves it and demands we live by it. Anything less is unacceptable. You cannot seek, love and obey God if you do not seek, love and obey the truth.
Value the truth as you value God.
There are many who will say: What is truth? And most people stumble trying to explain what it is. Without going into this too deeply at this point, it is important to know there are basic, fundamental truths that virtually everyone will admit or agree to as being the truth. Of course, those who choose to follow evil (the father of the lie), are reluctant to admit these truths because these truths expose their lies. Even still, they know these truths. And you, if you seek it, will absolutely know the truth when you see or hear it.
In the way of an example: consider the issue of slavery. The matter of slavery was NOT a difficult problem to solve. It was only difficult because the truth was not used to solve it.
Put yourself back in, say, 1850. You are a slave owner. People around you say they want to eliminate slavery. Of course, you are upset, because your plantation needs slaves to work the land, so you don't want to eliminate it. Let us say the President of the United States says: You know, maybe slavery is a good idea, and you seem to think it is, so, I just need you to sign this document saying that you think slavery is a good thing and you won't object to slavery EVEN IF YOU BECOME THE ENSLAVED.
Would you sign that document? How many do you think would? You know the truth, don't you; and so does virtually everyone else. Is there anyone who wants to be the slave of another? Every slave holder knew, if he were the enslaved, he would not think that slavery was just, and would hope that someone would end it.
Only lies, to others and to oneself, caused slavery to continue and cause devastation to so many and the nation. The acknowledgment of the simple truth would have prevented the pulling apart of a nation, and the death, pain and suffering that went with it.
You see, there are fundamental truths that all men know, and if we live by what we know to be the truth, as the Bible indicates God places in every human heart, we will know the right and just answers to any problem facing us.
This is why the truth is so important; without it, it is very unlikely, and maybe even impossible, to find those right and just solutions. God, being the author of truth, allows us access to it so that we may choose to do what is right, in obedience to him. When we ignore, or even fail to seek the truth, we reject what God has made available to us for our own benefit. He knows better than we and will guide us IF we agree to follow.
As you can see from the example I've cited, the answer to slavery, now, seems so obvious. The answers to so many other problems currently facing us, such as abortion, which so many try to convince us is a very complicated issue, really is not. Just ask: Is there anyone who would agree to a standard that would allow anyone to destroy, eliminate, kill them, when they have done nothing wrong to deserve capital punishment? You see, the truth shows us that the destruction of any innocent individual, even a child in the womb, is taking their life. The truth reveals to us that none of us would want to be subject to the same fate as a child whose life is taken in the womb through abortion.
_______________________
You know the answer to the above question. You see it is obvious because we know what the truth is. Only when we deny the truth could we allow abortions to go on. God knows we know the truth about these matters, and when we fail to acknowledge, speak, and promote the truth about abortion and many others injustices, he knows, we are choosing evil over good; he knows, we are ignoring the truth, his truth, which he placed in our heart for our own good. We show God we are willing to live by the untruth, the lie, in conscious disregard for the Spirit of Truth which, I MUST SAY, may qualify us as committing the unforgivable sin. (See: The Unforgivable Sin.)
What a wonderful God that gives us the opportunity to know the truth, so we can better our lives and gain our eternal reward.
But we are fools if we think we can escape condemnation for such overt disregard for his commands.
I do say this, in part, to scare you, because God wants you to fear him, because he knows that may be the only thing that will keep you on the right path. Yes, he would rather have you keep his commandments out of pure love for him, but he will settle for you doing so just because you fear the consequences if you don't. You should see, he is doing all he can to have you choose what is right according to his truth.
This is precisely why God commands us, above nearly all else, to love our neighbor as ourselves. If we do this, we will never deny innocent others their continued existence, or stand by while others openly do so, because we would not want anyone to do the same to us. WE ALL KNOW THIS.
Remaining silent is not an option — if we wish to be right with God.
