THE SIMPLE TEST

How do we make sure that we are doing as God wishes and commands? Thankfully, for us, he has given us a SIMPLE TEST we can perform so we can be sure we are acting in obedience to God.

Romans 13: 8-10

8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.

9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

So, what is that simple test?

If we love God, we show it by obeying him and those he places in authority over us. So, by loving our neighbor (or neighbour) as thyself we are fulfilling the first of what we call the two great commandments by obeying God which shows that we love him with our whole heart, mind, soul and strength and are fulfilling the second by loving our neighbor as thyself. Consequently, there is only one question we must ask our self when we want to know if we are doing as God wants. Is our action treating others (our neighbor, specifically) as we want to be treated? This is how we love our neighbor as our self, by treating him the way we want to be treated.

So, again, we ask: What is that simple test?

If you are a person honestly trying to obey God, the simple test to determine whether you are acting according to his commands is to simply ask: Am I treating my neighbor as thyself? If the answer is yes, you are doing just fine. If the answer is, no, you better find another way, because, instead of obeying God, you are showing you are refusing to obey him, which, of course, is NOT loving him.

Yes! The Simple Test is to just ask: Am I treating my neighbor as myself?

As you can see, even from the above Scripture, loving your neighbor as thyself "is the fulfilling of the law." If we faithfully do this, we won't violate God's laws, thereby, we are obeying God, which is to fully love him (which fulfills the first of the great commandments - to love God).

As with much about God, many people complicate their relationship with him. Remember, God loves simplicity, he wants us to know what is right, and wants us to be able to do what is right. So, always apply this SIMPLE TEST and it will help you know what is right with God.

OF COURSE, it is important to know just who is (and who isn't) your neighbor, isn't it?
